Displaced

Ongoing work : Displaced, 2020 is a body of work with one point of departure – “The story of David”. A series of perspectives that are narrated and expressed through photographic, video and archival material. Autonomous stories are entangled in one way or another.

European history is constructed by a heritage of written sources, established by documentation of the past. The history of Greenland is defined by the opposite origin, oral history, stories that have travelled through generations. Shared memory is a testimony.

Following traces of David’s life story has taken me on a journey from Denmark to Nanortalik and back again. Through the Archives looking for wherever an imprint of David could be found.

Displaced as a project does not aim for the accurate way of representing history. It’s a story where myth and reality, fact and fiction are not a contradiction but a contribution to keeping the ownership of history of those who history belongs to.
The project is an open document, an evolving narrative shaped by the participants, who lead the direction. No one’s story, no one’s history is a fixed matter.

Displaced is made in close relationship with Greenland National Museum and Archives / Head of the Archives Inge Høst Seiding and Nanortalik Museum, Greenland.

Displaced is part of Art and Social Communities (se more under outreach projects), Ilisimatusarfik/ University of Greenland
